these hangtags have been a long time in the making. ever since i officially opened up my etsy shop a year and a half ago, i've wanted hangtags for my products. i want them to look legit when customers open their packages. i also want them to have a tangible, readable, memorable reminder that the item came from my shop. i wanted all these things, but i just didn't have the money to order custom ones or the printing capabilities to print my own (our printer won't do cardstock).
i don't have much money, and recycling stuff is my shop's schtick anyway, so i knew i wanted a recycled sort of hangtag. i went through a few different designs but nothing seemed to work. i wanted them to look colorful and memorable, and obviously recycled. about a year ago i had the idea of using recycled cardboard like cereal boxes after watching a youtube video about doing just that. i could also use playing cards, puzzle and game boxes that are missing pieces inside, or anything similar.
finally this christmas i made a pretty decent amount of money from my shop. yay! i decided to invest it back into the shop, so i bought a circle punch and some printmakaing supplies which are for my fabric labels that i'll write about later. the circle punch was for these hangtags. i had the rather brilliant idea to take advantage of the colorful side of the cereal boxes to make my hangtags colorful. then i printed out a few sheets of kraft paper cardstock on my neighbor's printer with the design i had come up with. cut those out, and sewed them to the circles. colorful, recycled hangtags! since i used the colored side facing up, i can hand write a size and some care instructions on the reverse. finally, something that should work great for my shop!

cool Aleatha!
